Carol II of Romania, was in 1940, ousted by a ‘cout d’etat’, staged by he Iron Guard, and by General Antonescu.
King Carol II, never abdicated, and left for a life of exile, until he settled in Estoril, Portugal. His son Michael, reigned , but did not rule under Marshal Antonescu, until 23 August, 1944. Michael, abdicated on December 30 1947. Michael, then boarded a train, that would take him out of Romania, where a journey of exile, would take him to the west, returning, to Romania, in 1992, until his death.
Having, abdicated in 1947, Carol II, the legitimate dynastically King of Romania, reclaimed his throne in 1949.
The failed Antonescu, regime, had gambled the country, into the wrong camp,, Nazi Germany, during World War II . Antonescu, and the other “Traitors” in his government, paid, their mistake
with a public execution in 1946.
The communists, ruled Romania during the 1948-1990 period, the exit from the communist rule, was a painful road, that did not spare the average Romanian, of pain, hardship, and misery, however, faith in a new era for them all, gave them the strength, necessary to recover their freedoms, and make their lives more prosperous,
Politics, however, became a fierce arena, where politicians, of the entire political spectrum fought without mercy, to attain the power to rule. The reformed communists, now in disguise of a democratic attire, aspired to use the state as an instrument, to retain authoritarian power, This created a very complex, and contradictory “ Modus vivendi” where the average citizen, was
forced to understand the workings of the “ New Democratic state” in order to solve his problem.
The state, retained the ancient institution of the “Securitate” now rebaptized as “DNA” as the savior of “Justice” for all. In fact, the “DNA” vested with all the powers necessary, to act as an overlord, and guardian of the state, was vested as a branch of the Justice system, having an office in the ICCJ .
History, and the production of books on the subject of events that took place during the 1940-1947 period, is a never ending story, the reframing of History, is a national sport, However, the fundamentals of the past are frozen in time, and there is a concerted political consensus, that wishes to keep that way.
The figure of Antonescu, is still debated 78 years after his public execution . King Carol II, is depicted as a womanizer, irresponsible, frivolous, etc, an alliance of Antonescu nostalgics and communist die hards , have reinvidicated Antonescu, as the apex of “Law and Order” in a Romania, that they depict as mythical, .
The Republican government, passed a law several years ago, recognizing the Monarchy as a regime, that has its vital and lawful existence within the bosom of the Republic, A stunning
reality, unique in the annals of modern History. But , don’t be fooled, more than a century ago, Count Leon de Montesquiou, a Romanian aristocrat intellectual, wrote notes, on the politico-historical genesis of Romania, with such clarity, that it reads like a political op , one would read in a top newspaper.
And yes, Romania, was born out of the will of emperor; Trajan, Dacia, his colony, was populated with a concerted effort of the Romans, to create a colony in the frontiers of Europe.
And, yes, the Dacians, from, Moldavia, Vallachia, Bessarabia, and the Roman Empire settlers, created the embryo, Romania, a Latin nation, surrounded by Slav, neighbors, and….Turkey.
To make a long story, the national Romanian, desire to escape the “Turkish” trap, , created the electoral system, to choose a “Prince” amongst, the native Romanian, titled families. , this system
lasted, a long time, too long, for the “Turks” got involved in the system of elections, to extract great benefits for them, this lucrative election system, hijacked by the turns, for their own benefits, threw the nation into constant civil wars, such was the state of things, that the politicians decide, only a “Foreign Prince” could put back things in order in the country. And so it be, and after a rather convoluted series of events, Romania got its “Foreign Prince” in the figure of ; Karl I of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen.
This great move , not only gave Romania the internal order, it needed, but also the external prestige it got as a reward for its choice.
However, old sins come back to haunt you, and Romania, fell into the temptation in 1940, by choosing an ambition yet limited general, Ion Antonescu, who after falling for the song of the sirens in disguise , in the form of the Iron Guard, Codreanu< Falange, National Socialism, Antonescu, committed an act of treason, by using the Iron Guard to stage a coup, against the legitimate King of Romania, King Carol II, Carol II, did not abdicated, but had to leave by train, Romania. Romania, became like Franco,s Spain,: a Kingdom, under the leadership of a “Caudillo”, and so ,Antonescu, who fashioned himself , as a wannabe, Franco, became the “Conducatore”, However, the ambitious, Antonescu, lacked the animal wisdom of Franco, and decided to engage Romania, into the disastrous war project, the “Fuhrer” in Nazi Germany, had designed for his “ New Germania”. Antonescu, paid dearly the disastrous decision with his life on a balmy and overcast morning, in 1946, at a Bucharest abandoned lot, Death was his sentence.
The Communist rule, did away, with the frivolous lifestyle of the old aristocracy and the new riche bourgeois, all profiteers of the years of economic prosperity, propelled by Carol II.
This decadent lifestyle, came at a sudden end on Januarry 1948, when Romania, was declared, a “Popular Republic, and a heavy and thundering :Iron Curtain: fell on the borders, of the country.
Today, in an orgy of revisionism, many Romanians, misled by the fake historians, and journalists, lament the loss of Antonescu, and decry Carol II, as a lecherous, and womanizing ruler, this
is largely , because, of an inability to recognize of the huge mistake Antonescu, under the influence of the Iron Guard, made, and most of all, Antonescu, choosing the great looser of 1945.
One needs to read the books on “Apres 1944” and the OSS man in Bucharest; Frank G Wisener , how the decadent habits of the aristocrats and nouveau riches in Bucharest , stoked him to no end, lead him to leave the country.
Self delusion was the mistake of the Antonescu years, The Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen ,Dynasty, had given Romania its mark of distinction, These were electors of the Holy Germanic Roman Empire, the heirs of the Empire by Romulus and Remo, of Trajan. How Charles II was treated, and how , to this day a deposed heir of his, abandoned the family name, to the great relief of a part of the Romanians, who still hold Antonescu, in their hearts, is a mystery, but History comes back, and restores the position of those who were wronged, and in doing so, the heirs of ;Trajan, will be back on the throne, and rule the destiny of the country.
